Lots of good easy recipes online that can be modified for overlanding/ camping.
Heck my last camping trip I made a makeshift black berry cobbler using bisquick pancake mix and fresh blackberries.

Off topic a bit but if the family and I aren't planning to do a whole lot of cooking and want to relax more at camp, we often will prepare food ahead of time and toss it into Food Saver bags. We're portion things out as much as possible. Then it's a matter of boiling up a pot of water to reheat the food. On some occasions we've order takeout and sealed them for camping. Easy-peazy. :)

I am a chef(as if you couldn't tell by the name) so I don't really use recipes unless I am baking something. While deciding what you want to cook just cut and paste recipes from epicurious or whatever and paste it to your "notes" app on your phone. That way you don't have to pack an extra book. Just an idea.....

If you're on Pinterest, there's a TON of good camp recipes available via search. Here's my small selection (all depend on which gear I have with, some are more involved than others). There's old style foil-packet meals, delicious breakfast muffins, tips for campfire grilling, stews, trail mix, campfire nachos, Hobo Hamburgers, simple deserts, etc: https://www.pinterest.com/theroaddude/camp-foodrecipes/

Like @ChefboyRD wrote, when I see a camp recipe I want to try, I copy it to my iPad or phone so I have the ingredient list/directions even if off-line. Also helps when gathering groceries. I try to be as paperless as I can 'cause I'm always losing, misplacing, or forgetting paper lists.

The Tembo Tusk Cookbook was just released yesterday, loaded with lots of recipes for the camp. [LINK]

A request: If someone already has an account at one of the download options, could I ask for a copy of the e-pub? I'm asking, because Apple's option is in their proprietary format, and all of the others require creating an account and supplying a credit card, even for a free book. Thank you!
@Steve - did you ever get a copy ? I have it in a couple formats, though looks like the site now has it downloadable in a couple diff ways that don't require giving any info or card#.

Dropbox (no need to sign in or even be a Db member, I don't think, just click Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wd1m356utlfk282/The-Essential-Skottle-Grill-Cookbook.epub?dl=0
Google Drive (138 pgs): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5jnDorHsQXTN1hJTVdXYVJpbnc

I can send you the .epub if you still need it. PM me an email addy, if so, and I'll take care of it today.

Happy cooking, everyone. Hope others leave fav recipes and cooking ideas.

We use our solar ovens quite a bit, both overlanding and at the basecamp. Yaffe's "Solar Cooking for Home and Camp" is one of the best I've come across. In addition to the basic "slow cooker" type cooking that's so popular, she goes into trail mix, granolas, baking, and using the cooker to break down produce for canning, like apple sauce, etc.

Thanks for the reminder, we're headed to our other property for the eclipse and I almost forgot to pack my copy.

Solar oven cooking during a solar eclipse. . .now that's slow cooking! *grin*

Now I want to find that book and play with solar ovens. I know a guy down Terlingua way who has built his own that get hotter than any I've seen. He's got pretty constant sun, too, about 46 weeks of the year.

Whoa, this guy cooks for small crowds on ranches in all weather, from a real chuck wagon made by Studebaker before they made cars. No reason why we can't emulate him and do it, too, in our own way.

Like Kent says in another video "Ya cain't get full on fancy cookin'!"

Here's his Chicken Fried Steak:

Kent is fantastic. I learned to never wash my coffee pot from him. I don't have a kitchen here at the cabin, so we've become pretty adept at making just about anything over a fire, woodstove or solar oven. Great vid! Only thing I really need to refine more is pressure canning over a fire.

Just got my copy of Camp Cooking, mentioned above in this thread. What a cool cook book. Recipes from 100yrs of woods and Forest Service camps by The National Museum of Forest Service History. A ton of great looking recipes with a ton of photos from the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's.

Not a cook book but my wife and I have watched most of Ronny Dahl's videos "YouTube" on cooking as well as his videos on overland driving, gear and build tips.

Perhaps not a camping cookbook but I really like Ron Berg’s “Northwoods Fish Cookery” for recipes using the species found in the upper Midwest. Ron ran The Gunflint Lodge for many years I believe. His Gunflint Lodge Cookbook is my wife’s absolute favorite cookbook.

I published a cookbook specific to overlanding earlier this year, we had a booth at the Overland Expo West if any of you were there. We just launched our YouTube channel today, and we're on Instagram as well. I emailed Michael a month ago or so asking how to go about promoting it here and haven't heard back. Let me get in touch with him and I'll follow up here.

*Edit: if any moderators want to get in touch with me regarding this please don't hesitate to shoot me an email.
