Buy once and forget...this along with spend more money right will never have to spend even more over the long run. Finally I buy things that can be fixed or rebuilt not tossed are the ethos I try and follow. With this in mind;

Clothing and what to buy when you are limited to two sets of clothes for months. I need something rugged, casual, not techy. Something with a bulletproof warranty and customer support. Something that can be fixed easily.

So far I have found
-Darn Tough Socks...lifetime warranty that you develop a hole they send a new pair.
- Chaco Sandles...lifetime warranty and completly rebuildable
-LL Bean, you wear it out too soon they replace
-Canada Goose jackets...lifetime warranty and stand by thier gear

What I am looking at:
-Filson
-Fallraven

Anyone have any suggestions on quality overland clothing with good warranties and longevity?

Darn tough socks are awesome! I have several older Filson pieces that are very good. Some of the new filson stuff doesn't seem to be of the same quality as the old stuff from my experience and from what I've heard from other users. Filson's customer service is great however if you ever do have an issue. I have had great no questions asked returns with them and was very happy, they were very accommodating. I do have a newer pair of oiled tin cloth chaps I use for upland bird hunting and wood cutting etc that have been great, no wear at all. I have been wearing a pair of 5.11 cargo pants for the last year and a half and have been very happy with they way they have performed. I also have picked up some Sitka hunting clothes that are of very high quality. The Sitka gear is very specific to conditions which is nice and also comes in plain tan colors etc if you are not a hunter. their gear is pricey but can be found discounted on sites like camofire. I haven't had to deal with their customer service but have heard great things. In my experience if you spend a few bucks you get awesome customer service, but if you can also get great deals like packable down vests for under $20 at Costco that are terrific and aren't $200 with a Patagonia logo. Sometimes I spend a lot for that certain piece and sometimes Costco gear fills a need...

I'm starting to develop the same habit. I bought shoes for work that are resoleable, as well as new hiking boots from Danner that can be recrafted. Buy once and cry once. Took me a while to learn this, but now I'm definitely sticking to it.

I first learned my lesson with motorcycle boots. Now it seems it's the way to go. We live in such a throw away society. BTW, I checked your page MN is on the list. The northern section looks awesome.

I've been a fan of Khul for about 7-8 years, I think I have a couple of their shorts (not undies :) )that are that old. I love how they stretch and have enough pockets without looking Tacticool. Here in Central Texas the thing I love about them is they are cool... lets the boys breath if you will. Also, they dry quick. Dip into the river or lake and they dry off in an hour or so. I also have some of their pants, shirts and a lightweight jacket. Yeah yeah its not the cheapest, but if you watch REI garage sales you can pick them up at 1/2 price.

Thanks for the tip on Darn Tough socks. I swear my dryer eats them. I have a whole drawer full of socks... most of them singles as I have lost the other one.. I save them in case the sock fairy decides to bring them home again. lol So I ordered 4 of the Darn Tough ones off Amazon and they will arrive tomorrow. My plan is to throw away all the unmatched socks (80% of them) and replace. Thanks again, never knew those existed. Might need to invest in a washer bag that I can put the socks in, toss in washing machine, then in the dryer and HOPE that cuts down on missing socks.

then in the dryer
If you got the good ones, they are mostly merino wool, and shouldn't need to go in the dryer. We just hang them over the towel rack to dry after washing on delicate. I have about six pairs, Deb about the same, and daughter probably more. They are the *only* socks I wear any more. I wear the thin wool all summer and they keep my feet dryer than the synthetic stuff I used to wear, and they don't stink like the plastic, either.

Thanks for the the tip! I'm just lazy and everything goes in the dryer. :) But hey if I do the washing bag I can easily put them on a drying rack. Note to self... buy a drying rack.

No laughing or pointing fingers, that said. Ex Officio underwear is hands down the VERY best there is. Once you use it there is no using anything else. It is not cheap at about 20- 25.00 for one. If you watch Amazon or Kinja deals they often go on sale for 20 to 25 percent off. They have a life time garuntee. The only thing that has gone wrong is over the years the waist band stretches out. When that happens I send them back and they send me new ones.

Danners are the BEST. But they can be a tad heavy for some people. But they are all I buy now. They last FOREVER.
