Looking for some info on running the NMBDR mid to late Oct this year.
Any places you stopped that were not “on” the map? Conditions or difficulties you encountered?

We are planning to stop a lot and hike the peaks and try a bit of fly fishing.

Thanks …

I did the route with another van a couple years ago. It was great fun. Here's a write-up.

Fly fishing? Down south, maybe the Rio Ruidoso or the Gila. There are a couple lakes too, Grindstone and Alta near Ruidoso, and Lake Roberts and Snow Lake in the Gila.
Up North, the Jemez river, the East fork of the Jemez, Rio Guadalupe, and the Rio San Antonio in the Valles Caldera. These are all small stream fishing. The Chama below Abiquiu lake is a little bigger and can be good depending on outflow from the dam. There's also Fenton lake and Abiquiu lake. Up by the Colorado border there's the Rio del los Pinos and just in Colorado is the Conejos. Both can be great!

Let me know when you're coming through. I may be around if we're not hunting in Montana.

I did it in a 2019 4wd Transit short wheelbase, low roof and it was a cake run. Very Very pretty in the mountains and standard desert in the low country.
We did a few side runs to Sitting Bull Falls and Cloudart and Pietown.
The BDR maps are worth buying for all the extra info the paper version has vs the gps track digital.
