Hi Everyone,

I am new to overloading, but not to adventures. I come from the motorcycle world mostly doing long distance cross country trips with my most exciting being Mexico to Canada in 36 hrs. I just purchased a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 and can't wait to start building it up. I have never been on official off road trails and am excited to learn this new way of traveling. Any advise I can get is most appreciated. I see plenty of videos on Jeeps and Tacomas, but not much on my kind of vehicle. I will hopefully be posting updates on how my build progresses over time.

Hello Roger, welcome from Oklahoma.

You are in the Southwest Region. Check out the Southwest Region sub-forum for local information and involvement opportunities.

Here is the link to the forum calendar and Meet-Up event page: Overland Bound Meetups. Pre-pandemic there was a monthly meet up in Gilbert, but it has been suspended like many other things right now. Keep an eye out for meet up info if/when things return to some form of normalcy. Also, Overland Expo West is scheduled for May 14-16 in Flagstaff.
Or to check out what other members are planning go here: Overland Trip Planning

I am the SW Region Member Rep so if you have any questions let me know.
If you are on Facebook feel free to join us there as well, Overland Bound – Southwest.

First of all - Welcome and let me tip my hat to you for the Mexico to CA trip, that was on my short list when I had lived in AZ. Just moved back east, and like you I find myself building my 1500 (Ram) as my primary overlanding rig. Take your time and it out on paper, I have been braking out the drawing board for the last six months from the most insane off the top build options to a more practical / down to earth build. I'll post more on my build this spring.
