hey Y'all! Just joined Overland Bound and I couldn't be more excited! I've been a TacomaWorld member for a few years and found Michael's video's on Youtube and got stoked to start Overlanding! A little bit about myself, I'm a 42 year old Merchant Mariner working in the Gulf of Mexico on Tankers. I have a 2003 ext cab Tacoma w/ a V6 5 speed, 4x4. I was just able to pay off all my debt and in the process of continuing to finish my build. I didn't have plans on making her an Overlanding rig, it's just how it's starting to unravel. I'm moving out of my apartment and setting up up my camper shell to live in her and travel throughout all the mountain states while I'm not on ship. Looking forward to finally hitting those trails! :grinning:

Next on my list is installing my sliders from 4XInnovations, Deaver Expedition Springs, Total Chaos UCA’s, Tundra brake upgrade, replacing my LBJ’s, Lower control arms, inner and outer tie rods, and both cv axles. The swingout tire carrier comes next followed by a diy offroad bumper from Flatlands 4x4, I plan on re-gearing to 4.56’s locking both front and rear diffs at ECGS with the Harrop E-lockers. Hopefully it will all be done by the fall time. THEN, I’ll boost her ;)

Thank you! I’m currently on ship and unfortunately won’t be able to make any trip. Still a few more things I want to do to my suspension before she hits the trails again. Thanks again for the invite.

Nice truck Joe, and welcome to OB. Keep in mind what you do want out of your truck.
Camping sounds like a priority for you. Spend some time out on trails and decide what you need as you go, and how you want to outfit it.
It's easier not to get carried away with too many goodies that way.
If your travels ever bring you to so. Cal, post up and I can point you toward some fun stuff.

Thank you Dan, That’s very good advice. It’s hard to say for right now what’s needed and what’s desired. You can justify just about anything :smirk:

Hey man - welcome to the wide and diverse OB crowd!

Having spent a ton of time on the Maine Coast, I love seeing someone who is a Merchant Marine join up. Got friends who've come up through the Merchant Marine Academy and others I know who frequent the oceans more than land and who get out to Diego Garcia a good bit. Always a good story over a beer or three. A different type of travel and getting to know the world, to be sure. Known a few great Gulf workers too.

Dan @VCeXpedition has good advice; worth paying attention to.

Glad to have you aboard!

Let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do for you.

Thanks Road! I’m actually looking for my overlanding time to out due my sailing time! Gotta love those Mainiacs! I’m originally from New England myself and have sailed with a bunch on Maine guys. I’d definitely like to get up there in my travels. Someday Lord willing!

Yeah, most people who spend time on the oceans of the world run into a lot of Mainers. Well, if ya get up this way and I'm not out rambling around somewhere, I'll be glad to let you buy me a beer. I mean, uh, no, I'll buy you dinnah!
