  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

The Jeep club I’m in recently switched to gmrs radios, cb will no longer be acceptable. Being as I’m in logging truck country, I still have need for a cb. Whether I talk to logging trucks or not is irrelevant....

I’m also a ham, so that makes three radios I will currently have in Number 7. At one time I had a Cobra 75 cb. I hated it. So I choose the Midland MXT115 to add to my growing list of unused electronic devices. The club had a group buy on Midland radios, so I picked up a MXT115 bundle for a very good price. I’m waiting for the Frontrunner antenna mount to restock, so I am just using the supplied magnetic mount attached to the Sirius XM mount I made for my Slimline II rack.

I decided to mount the Midland radio under the Uniden cb using two of the speaker screw holes. I had the drill them out a touch so I could use some longer, bigger screws I already had. The stock speaker on the Uniden Bearcat 880 sucks, so I already have an external speaker. I have the three radio speakers in different spots so I can tell which radio is receiving by which ever direction the broadcast is coming from.9DB6DE8C-37EF-4A1A-836D-33F5CAE00D59.jpeg0DE34524-B07A-4C49-9968-08AEB4097093.jpeg81F99CD7-8E3D-4AFF-90E6-0EFCF8173F81.jpeg78B791EA-9C52-47BD-91BC-09684D306957.jpeg

The install was as easy as any other. Easier actually since the Midland radios and antenna come already tuned, providing you use Midland antennas.

When the Frontrunner mount comes in, I’ll update with the antenna install. Hopefully in the next month, by what Frontrunner has told me.
