i'm open, at this time, to both hard exterior and soft covered (I've got some experience with custom canvas work).
On one hand, I'm playing around with some designs for a convertible canvas covering over an aluminum or steel rack system (rack similar-ish) to what is on the back of the FrankenJeep
build thread here
On the other, I really like the idea of some additional secure and lockable storage that can double as sleeping quarters--sort of a "base camp". I've played around with some aluminum SIP (structural insulated panels) in the past and that's definitely in the back of my mind.
I think the 1101/1102 series is a bigger trailer than the majority of folks are DIY'ing, it seems. A couple of pro builders out there are doing some really cool things with them. The
Expedition Supply Blackout is a favorite idea right now.
FrankenJeep is coming down to the finish line and should be debugged, shook down, and ready to hit the road in March. I expect to hit the pavement and dirt in late 2020 or early 2021, and I still haven't sourced the trailer as yet, so I still have a little bit of time to play around with the design before I actually have to start. The goal/dream is full-time vagabonding until I get too old or too tired. :)
