So im heading out west for school and im looking to buy a used 4x4 for pretty cheap $1500 or less. It will probably get bashed around, so i dont want to spend alot on the truck itself. im looking around and want to know what i should be looking for mechanically.
Obviously at that price point i wont be getting the ideal rig, but I wont feel so bad scratching it up. Alot of the trucks i see are rusted underneath or have other issues.. and i know ill probably cause alot of rust if i take them underwater, so i guess it needa to be rust free.. do you guys do anything mechanically to the engine? Just sliders and plates? Any aftermarket steering colums? Differentials? Exhaust? Etc..
Whats the ideal used truck to consider? Not make/model.. but the ideal mechanical conditions.
