It was 6 months ago Kismet was found abandon and living on the streets. I rescued him took him to the vet and then groomer. He has a month long overlanding trip under his belt, Including an encounter with a black bear and heard of big horn sheep. We returned home to refit and take care of business. Kismet is ready to get back on the road. He loves riding in the jeep and has made a great travel companion.

Congrats to you both. Nothing like a dog who knows their past and appreciates their place in life. We ahve 3 rescues. One was on the street for months based on his coat. He is an incredibly loyal guy. Our newest addition came from the shelter. She has been a terror for the other two and they all love it. They all have trips to Terlingua, Taos, our cabin at 10k' in New Mexico. Maximus is doing a 10+ day trip to Colorado next month with me.

I have a rescue pit mix, Clara. It takes more work to get a rescue dog sorted and trained but once they realize you are their person for good rescues become the most loyal and loving dogs.

The first time I saw Kismet (well not his name at the start). I thought he has to belong to somebody that just wasn't taking care of him. So even though he came to me, I put him back down. At the end of the day, I went back looking for him but he was not around so I went home (I lived in another town). It bothered me for days so I sent my former co-worker a text telling her if she see him again to get him and I would come pick him up. One of my former co-workers who live there sent me a text that someone had posted on Facebook about a dog that had been in the neighborhood for 3 hours and owner needs to contact to pickup the dog. No reply to the post. My former co-worker was picking up her kids from day care several days later and saw him. Her daughter and her went and brought some treats and a leash. They lured him in, caught him and sent me a text. I drove down to the town and picked him up.

My wife was taking Maximus for a walk and this filthy brown dirtball shyly came up to her. She called me and asked me to help. Took him to our vet. Used a scalpel to cut most of his matted fur off. As you can see in the pic, he is white, not brown. He had a collar with a tag. Called and the owner called 5 days alter saying he didn't want him any longer. Took several weeks and him running off twice for him to see the value and predictable schedule we had. He is a mamas boy, but he knows who takes him to the dog park.
