We just started a month long trip heading to the West Coast and up around Montana on the way home. We will be gone about a month and hope to see some great spots and earn some Jeep Badges of Honor along the way. If anyone wants to follow along the intro is up on my YouTube here. The idea is to do a loop around the from Chicago to CA/OR then back through ID/MT. We will do as much offroad and camping as possible and post updates. Sadly the trip cannot all be off the beaten path but we hope to do as much as possible.

Definitely keep an eye out for the wildfires, smoke, and air quality forecast when you get out west. I'm on a trip in northern CA, OR, and WA. We abandoned our plans to visit farther inland (e.g. Crater Lake) because of the smoke, and are sticking to the coast. Gaia GPS with the wildfire , smoke, and air quality layers has been a godsend. We brought some N95 masks with the vents in case the smoke got to us before we could get out of it, and it helped once when turned off at Grant's Pass on the way to Crescent City, CA.

Plan extra $ for gas in CA. I filled up a few days ago in Crescent City with regular for $4.78/gallon .

WOW...wish my gas was that cheap. 4.99 for regular and if you head out into the remote areas as much as 5.50 +.

Thanks for the replies and we have been forced west to the coast for a fair bit of the trip, but at the end of the day we are having a great time. Highest gasoline prices we have seen was Mammoth, CA at $5.29. We managed all of the trails in CO that we had planned on and have some very cool scenery up on the YouTube channel of Ophir, Imogene, Engineer, California, Hurricane and Corkscrew with Black Bear coming on Sunday. We have seen a lot of smoke and did go to Crater Lake but it was pretty smoky so the view wasn't the best. I will post videos of all the locations we were able to get to-the campsite on the North Rim was spectacular and Yosemite was a blast, just steps away from the river. My college roommate is a ranger there and had a good chat with him that will go up on the channel in a bit.

We are heading toward Whitefish and Glacier in a day and there are some fires that way as well so fingers are crossed. Currently in Sandpoint ID and pretty hazy here, views of the surrounding mountains are non-existent but had a great time last night-we hooked up with some folks and found some great little watering holes.

So far the only mechanical issue has been a nice crack right down the center of the Trash Can's windshield but it seems to have stopped and expect we will make it home without having to replace.

You can check out the trails in CO starting with Ophir here-I hope you guys enjoy them!

We spent a night in Crescent City as well, a great place to stay that let us explore the Redwoods more. The downside was that on Friday night all the restaurants closed at 8 pm! We ended up at the Ocean View hotel and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. I am not sure what I expected but I was very happy with the choice.

Black Bear and the next leg are now up on the channel if you want to ride along. I am also curious if you guys like the format of the travel videos?
