Recently I came across an interesting travel website that I have been utilizing and wanted to pass it along to all of you. Atlas Obscura. It provides obscure and interesting locations to visit all across America. Actually the world. Mainly interesting, out of the way museums in small towns or rural America. It refers to itself as...
"A definitive guide to the world's hidden wonders."
I am utilizing this website when planning longer trips to remote fly fishing locations. I know, it's not an Overlanding kind of resource but here is how I use it. Most of my trips purposefully take me through small towns. I always plan ways around big cities. Just me. These small towns can have unknown and unique museums and resources. You can enable its location service and see what is coming up or around you. Better yet, I like to use it for planning a route and look ahead of time for places I may want to stop when passing through.
It's not for everyone as some may not enjoy unusual museums. But, if you do, it's a pretty good fun resource! I like it and thought I would pass it on to you all. BTW, I'm not associated with them. Mark
