Well, we were at walmart today, picking up the final things for our trip. We were supposed to leave out next Saturday. This will be the first vacation I've ever had. I mean where we just take off and see things. Sure we have taken a week or so every couple years and gone and visited family. But this is the first time we've just traveled. And Ive been wanting to run the PCH for about 5 years.
But today at Walmart I lost my keys. And of course that means...... Keyfob for the Tacoma.
So, a new keyfob is basically going to take up my gas money I have for the trip.
We've been back once and looked through the entire store, and we are going to go in a little while to look again, but I think it will take a miracle to find them.
So, I think, after all the work Ive done, and all the money spent to get the things we would need, the trip is now off.
This sux so bad.

Why so much for a key fob? I don't know much about Tacomas, so maybe it's different. But when I bought my Xterra, it had one fob, which didn't work. I bought two off ebay for less than $10, found a video on YouTube that showed how to program them myself, and I was all set. Is that not possible with your rig?

Check out AutoZone and advance Auto... I've seen signs in there talking about key fobs for your vehicle... I've also seen them on Amazon like @Quicksilver mentioned... Good luck.. hope things turn around for y'all

Get on your google and find a place that sells them. I'm sure Toyota wants a pretty penny. I belive Batteries plus does Key fobs. It's worth a shot.

What a relief. Loosing the key fob would totally suck. For our truck we decided to get one of these (http://www.hitchsafe.com) after a trip to the lake last summer where I almost lost my keys. Now I have a spare key and key fob locked in this all the time. Provides some peace of mind and seems better than a basic hide-a-key magnet under the rig somewhere.

Enjoy your trip!

Is it the fob that's the issue, or are they the keys with the chip for anti-theft (or both)? Many of the latter will allow you to self-program additional keys, but require that you have two functioning keys to start with. So if you already have 2, you can buy unprogrammed keys and add a third or fourth. But as I said, they often require two working keys first..blech.

Ya, it was the Fob. It cost 300$+ to replace one of those suckers.
Yes, they come with 2.
We always have the spare, cause thats the wifes key.
And yep, we are ready to go. Just got to load out and leave.
Hope you have a great trip.

If you fed up paying $300+ to dealer to have a spare key, I have a solution. You just need to know how to use a program to reprogram new key. You can get blank key and key fob from Amazon or eBay for cheap. I use a program called techstream.

I have 3 keys for the Cruiser.. 2 full keys (with remote and all) and 1 garage key without remote and that can't access the glove box lock..
I would have gone on the trip regardless and worry about getting it replaced later tbh :) but glad you found the damn thing!

If I would lose my keys I would stress more about the fact my house keys are on the same key ring haha.
