Enthusiast I
Wanted to share my overland Kitchen / storage space. This is still an on-going project and mods are being made as i see fit or as space allows. Most trips I travel with my 5 year old only which doesn't give me much time to setup and pack-up. There has been time when we went to spend the night or 2 nights but had to pack up and leave the same evening. And to keep him entertained it is one thing after another. I have his toys for playing in dirt, his beach toys, and few things for winding down before dinner like puzzles etc.
My biggest challenge was when I picked up 1 thing 3 more things would shift. When packing up I couldn't just grab anything, it would have to go in particular order for things to fit. So I came up with this solution. Now everything has its own place. 1st thing once we park is food and that takes me 5 mins to heat up and serve. As food is heating i can reach to the driver side and grab his chair and folding table... My Ice chest is easy access as well. My Pots and pan is accessed from the side. And utensil has a drawer under the stove. On the kitchen side it rolls out about 9 ft from back on car. Behind the Ice Chest i have space where i carry 3 x 1 gallon insulated water bottle, my Camco Little Red Campfire, and luggage. Right now my sink is simple and use paper towels, baby wipes and spray bottle... i carry a 5 lbs propane tank in my Spare Tire trash bag with extra tie down so the whole weight in not on the bag... We have a CVT Pioneer Denali Roof top tent and all my bedding in closed with the tent so i dont have to worry about carrying that. all my dry food does in the bear canister that is easy access. it takes me 10 mins to pack-up well enough be ready for the next trip. Even quicker if i want to just throw things in a get out. My Maxtrax and extra ladder stays on the top all the time.
This setup still allows me to have a small rear view using my mirror (Esp if emergency vehicle are coming). i still have clear view on the passenger back blind spot.
This stays permanently in the car. But i will be chopping this in half and making the stove side its own cabinet and the ice chest side its own. i will also drop the height on the ice chest side another 2 inch and get rid of the extra space you see. On the ice chest side the top is permanent and i will make it removable. This way the trunk will become more usable when im not overlanding. Also i could just remove the Ice chest side and install the 3rd row single seat.
