I've been a member for more than a minute, but haven't contributed much err... anything.

Which... as above evidence from last September's miring in Oregon's Alvord Desert suggests, might not be a bad thing. I am not a wise man.
Mistakes. Were. Made.
OB Badge was not yet affixed but was in my center console.
I'm originally from Pretoria, ZA, moved Stateside to Missouri as a child and have lived in Portland, OR for just under six years.
My Afrikaans may be sub-optimal / almost non-existent these days, but my Biltong making and potjiekos are on-point.
Pictured above is Artemis, my 93 Jeep Cherokee XJ Sport. Purchased in poor condition from an auctioneer. I like lost causes and have since put multiple times her value into repairing/replacing just about everything except the engine and transmission. Over 215k miles on the odometer, but seemingly running strong.
Cosmetic scars still remain, but are on the radar for this year. Was stolen from the front row of a transit station here in Portland in Dec 2018, thieves cut the club and steering wheel off, drove her two miles, did a fair bit of interior damage then dumped with windows down in the rain. Have a kill switch installed now.

Not me driving in this pic, but my Uncle, who served as my first real exposure to Overlanding. He took his 110 around the world back in the day and I was fortunate enough to drive it through Kruger and a few other spots with him when last back in Africa. It's still in family hands, and is faithfully seeing the next generation into and through the veld. Intend on buying it one day if able.

I miss my previous rig, Renata, pictured on my first hunt in MO. Will let you guess which vehicle that may be. Sold her when I thought I was going to move to Shanghai but decided to do PDX at the last-minute instead (looked like it'd be a bit like Scotland, which I loved, but with better beaches)
Other interests:
Massive history nerd. Like things that go pew, jiu-jitsu, charcuterie, building a good fire whilst dozens of miles up labyrinthine logging roads, books/writing, and a wee bit of meaningful mischief. Have been getting more into foraging, decent enough at clamming and harvesting mussels now for a beach-side Moules Marinières preparation, just finished a six-week archaeology basic training course and with that and/or some anti-poaching interdictions, hope to earn my way into the hallowed halls of the Explorers Club. In the meanwhile, wish I had a garage and less rubbish welding/fab skills to work with.
Grateful to have a rig that can take me to amazing places, that few will ever see, as I learn.
Thanks to the OB team for keeping the prospect of upcoming adventures around the corner fueled and alive.
When all of this settles down, would be glad to grab a pint or other beverage of choice with anyone in the area.
Cheers for now,
Juard
