I am planning a trip to see family and I thought I would attempt to make the most of it by doing it overland style. How do I find good routs? How do I know the Difficulty Level these roads / trails? This kinda Stuff is new to me....

1) what are your interests?
2) where do you want to go (put some dots on the map)?
3) join the dots
4) estimate transit times (based on average speeds - for us 70-90 Km/h highway, 40 Km/h unsurfaced roads, “off road” could be 20 Km/h to 30 Km/day; overall daily average 170 Km, average driving time 4-6 hours/day)
5) add some transit stops where you can’t get from A to B in a day.
6) decide how long in each stop - typically 1-7 nights)
8) estimate fuel, food, water etc., needs
9) pre-trip vehicle check (and maintenance if appropriate)
10) daily check, change driver every 2 hours (every hour on difficult trajectories)
11) have fun!
