Hi everyone! So i am currently living in Germany (Wiesbaden to be more precise) and i just got into tis whole Overlanding thing. I used to be a motocross rider and grew up in the wild, but ever since i moved to Germany many years ago ive been mainly doing track-racing and really miss just being out there in the wild. So i want to build a rig big/good enough for me and my wife. I am considering something simple, concentrating more on the camping and paved road side of it than the off-road portion of it. But obviously the vehicle should have some off-road capabilities. So vehicles that came up to mind: Suzuki Grand Vitara, Subaru Forester/Outback, Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Pathfinder. All of these are available for around 5000-8000euros in good condition. Any thoughts? Cheers!

Likewise, welcome from Germany too. I’m working in the WI area. Do you need the rig to pull double duty as a daily driver and overland rig? Good mileage and reliability with the Subaru. Good load capacity, mod options, and network of garages with Nissans. ‘Zuki is reliable too. I’ve always been partial to Pathfinders so that would be my first choice.

Thats a good question...im still not 100pro sure if i want it also t be my daily or not....i am tending to leave the 4x4 as an "overland only" vehicle and keep my little Toyota Yaris as a daily...i guess the money will decide....but thats a good point i didnt really think through, im gonna give that idea some thought...thanks guys!

So maybe if you don't need the offroad capabilities take a look at the rugged station wagons, like skoda octavia scout or Volvo XC70, subaru outback etc. awd is ok and they tend to have a lot better gas mileage as the suv.
