I think I'm going to go with a gmrs radio with a couple handhelds because a lot of people I go with don't have radios so they can use the handhelds

Just remeber if you go with people that are not licensed to run on either frs channels or the frs/gmrs shared channels

Also Make sure to read over the FCC rules on it, they have changed some of the regulations in regards to MURS, GMRS/FRS. If I recall they changed some of the power allowances on FRS.
