I think I might be spoiled when I sleep better in my truck (camper top with a Megamat 10) than in a king sized hotel bed...I forgot how badly I sleep in hotels..10 hours driving yesterday..only slept 4 hours..where are my keys????
I dont typically spend a lot on gear compared to most overlanders on YouTube..I'm a small business owner and fortunate that a good majority of tools we take on adventures is dual purposed for me...shovel is always on the truck in its mount because I do a good portion of things outside in the summer..awnings always in the truck..comfy camp chair is in the back..tarps under the back seat....new homelite chainsaw was purchased for a job that got back charged for it...power tools and lights for work..Heck even my 14 ft enclosed is a business item and the kids use it as a bunk house!
I didn't buy maxtrax..I got the masas..I don't have a winch (don't really need one)..my Coleman cooler holds ice for 3 days and we never stay at camp that many days without having to stop and get something..but after many nights of poor sleep I *DID* drop some $$ on mattresses..my $10 pillows are comfy..and if they get nasty..it wasn't a $30-50 one so I just stop when I'm getting ice and get a new pillow..but I'm COMFORTABLE...Rugs too...cheap wrag rugs in the truck bed to walk on when getting changed..a rug at the bottom of a RTT ladder..cheap..comfy..
Who else has found on a trip that a hotel or a BnB has left them wishing they had camped or spent a little more money for accomidations?...spent a few hours in a tourist town but the general public makes you wanna scamper back to the tiny camp ground with dispersed campsites to enjoy the solitude? I'm a people person but JEZ...there are so many stars of Wal-Mart out there!!
