Hello Everybody,
Brian aka Nullifier here. I just joined and paid up my membership so I am waiting a # now. I have been a long time high level outdoorsman for a long time. Got my first outdoor job in the scuba industry at 15 in Ft Lauderdale. Spent a few summers working in the Bahamas and started a Canoe Kayak shop in Tampa in 1991. Traveled and paddled all over the U.S. Central America, Canada, Australia and more over the next 25 years. Was always into cars but got into the 4x4 scene to extend my range in the backcountry while traveling. Bought a 96 Taco in 2004 and built it with all the goodies lockers ,gears, lift, dual battery, air and then built all my armor. Awesome little truck took me all over the southeast and as far west as the Bay of LA in Baja. It had the advantage of being a second vehicle for me, so it was a dedicated adventure vehicle and served me well till I needed more space for kids a few years ago. That truck is currently torn aprt and is getting a full frame off refresh and will hopefully continue to contribute to my "advanced" adventures.
2 years ago I needed a new daily and found myself at the jeep dealer unable to sign off on a 43k Rubicon. Great vehicles but buying any vehicle for that much outright is just tough for me to do mentally. So I set out on a quest to find a super clean 1 owner low mileage 80 series. As you know they are getting hard to find but the next day A mint stocker got posted on ebay and 2 days later I was on a plane flying all the way to Idaho Falls to then drive it back home to Tampa, Fl. I have never been one to pass on a clean car at the right price with a great adventure thrown in. I think I was actually more excited about the story of the coming adventure then the cruiser. Upon arriving in Idaho falls I learn the airline lost my pelican case which had some tools, clothes, camp gear and my .....gun! Once located they said it would be another 24 hours, however I was supposed to pick up my dad the next day in Rapid City so he could ride back with me. So I told them to redirect it to R.C. thinking this is never gonna work out.
I got my truck from a super nice guy and it was better then it looked on the web.
Before leaving Victor Idaho he told me stop into the Emporium for a Hucklberry shake and I am glad I did. Huckleberries are not a thing in Fl. I drove all afternoon and through the night through Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, Cody, the Bighorn national forest and onto Rapid city where I got to the airport 5 min after my dad landed and to my surprise my case was there! The drive the day before across Wyoming was amazing. Even under a full moon it blew my mind at how much wildlife I saw and the beauty of the region. I knew full Well I would be coming back here Again.
My dad and I had an awesome time driving back making alot of neat stops and driving as much non highway as possible over the next 7 days.
Since then I have been using the truck as my daily and family adventure vehicle but she has remained almost completely stock. Over the next 6 weeks though she is going to get a big make over. This is because The Cruiser is headed back to Idaho. I am taking 5 weeks starting July 3 and retracing my steps to Wyoming and Idaho. My wife and Kids will be flying into Rapid City and we will be traveling for 24 days across Wyoming and they will fly back from Salt Lake City. My dad will once again fly out and He and I will be driving back to Florida. We will be focuseing our play time in Colorado but we are still mapping that section out.
I am really looking forward to getting my kids on thier first big western trip at ages 5 and 7 this summer. Hopefully I can meet some of you along the way.
