Hey All, looking at getting My first truck, a Toyota Tacoma off-road. I’m thinking Tacoma off-road with the stabilizer disconnect mechanism and then skid plates. Are there any other options/features I should be looking at? I’m just starting now, but I plan on keeping this truck and would like it to be just as capable when I one day want to do something like the pony express trail someday.

Theres lots of stuff you could spend money on if you wanted.

Or you could just bring your tents, bring coolers, food, drinks and all your camping and recovery gear and you would be just fine.

I think it is a good way to start to just pack the most important things, to be prepared for emergency situations and then take several smaller trips. Then YOU see what YOU really need. Maybe take a pad and pen with you and write down what you notice on the way on your frist trips and then adjust step by step.

Essential in my opinion is for example first aid training and pack a first aid kit before going on trips. You can also find some information about it here in the forum in the OB First Aid Bootcamp.

I am sure, more tips will be added here and you could also look on the OB map, who is in your area. I am sure, that members in your area will be happy to give you specific tips for your region what to pack and what not.

All you need is a basic ground tent, standard gear (sleeping bag, sleeping pad), water, some hot dogs and a campfire.
