80% in a cardboard box, which was peak here in northern Ohio. Another longer duration, wider path total eclipse crosses the US from Texas to Maine in just 7 years. So much for all the "once in a lifetime" hype... The next one passes within two miles of my house.

I think the hype was that it was a coast to coast eclipse that only happens every 99 years or so. I took the kiddo's up to Idaho to be in the Umbra during eclipse. I've seen partial eclipses in my life and thought they were kind of cool but being in the center of the shadow for the first time was other worldly. The darkness and stars suddenly and the temperature drop was pretty awesome. Then when the sun finally peeked out from behind the moon it was like a very bright, small light bulb in the sky at first. I found it quite emotional and I'm glad I went but yes, definitely a lot of hype. You know the news, sensationalize anything you can for a rating. lol
