Do you Recce a trail?

As all overlanders should know, doing a recce is usually a smart thing to do..

If its a distant location, doing a recce could be expensive so what do you do?
Do you:
Check out online websites for reviews?
Ask other friends who might have already done the trail?
Ask on Forums!?

Lets see what methods you guys do when planning to go on a trail

I always google it and look for official websites or well documented trail posts (from a Magazine or something). If none of that is available, I'll really dive into the deep end of the internet and look for any article I can find on the trail. YouTube as been a valuable tool recently too.

Since I'm almost always in an area that's relatively new to me, I use the interwebs to find places to go. Do some light reading and go check it out. You can easily spend more time on the computer than on the trails, so I try not to get too bogged down. If if doesn't work out, closed/damaged trail, oh well. Now I can spread what I learned.

When the trails/destinations are further away I search both forums and YouTube. As I get closer to my travel date I will post questions on forums or through direct message to people who have run the trail or done similar in the area to see what insight they may have.

As much interwebbing as I possibly can. Pay careful attention to post dates, and apply trust appropriately.

its good to see a common theme going on where everyone atleast checks out the area they are looking to go to and/or know someone how has already been there
