Buying new wheels and tires from 4 Wheel Parts. Moving up to 35" tires. Salesman insists I will need to upgrade my spare tire mount because the increased weight of the new tire will quickly take a toll on my tail gate. Is he just trying to up sell or is this a thing?

Thanks in advance.

(My rig: 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4-door, Willys edition))

Depends on the combined weight of the new tire and new wheels. Supposedly the stock tire carrier is rated to carry 85 lbs. of weight and the carrier can be adjusted to accommodate a 35" tire. Depending on how much over that weight you go will determine if you need to upgrade your carrier system or just the hinges on the door. If you decide to upgrade your carrier you may want to get something that will also handle 37" tires or larger so you won't have to upgrade twice should you want to go larger on your tires at a later date.

Got it. Thanks for the info.

Total weight = 97lbs. Will go ahead and do the upgrade and make sure to leave myself some room for growth. Thanks again!
