Although my Isuzu is currently undergoing maintenance, I'd still like to try out some dispersed camping this weekend with one of my regular ol' cars; either Honda Fit or Subaru Impreza Wagon. A quick google search shows me some dispersed camping info on the MN DNR site, as well as a map of state forests. Should I be looking at other websites? Somewhere on this forum? Couldn't find much with Minnesota searches.
The closest ones to me in Minneapolis are Sand Dunes, and then Rum River, Snake River, and Chengwatana. Anyone been to these before? Recommendations? Will I be able to get anywhere reasonable without a 4x4 to find a camp spot? The plan is to either hike or relax for a day, so this is more of a camping trip than an off grid trek; baby steps, right?
Thanks!
PS is it better to post directly in the Midwest Region for this stuff kind of stuff?
Location Map
There is no shortage of state forest locations in Minnesota -- there are over 59 state forests to choose from! Use the map to find a forest near you.
