How do I delete a thread that I have started?

I search for things and they don't come up all of the time for some reason whether its key words or whatever...and I don't want to clog up the conversations in the Forums with multiple threads of the same thing. If I start a thread, how do I delete it to get it off of the site so this does not happen?

Is this possible? If not, I will be more careful as I should be. And I apologize for being too eager to find out info...lol

Joey had PM'd me the above question earlier and I just replied. I figure that I'll reply here as well for anyone interested in the answer:

No, users cannot delete a thread. If you do want a thread deleted at some time, or merged with an existing topic if there are several replies, just let me know and I'll be happy to help.

As for how this request often happens, it is likely due to the fact that our search function isn't the easiest to use. By default, there is a checked box to only search in the sub-forum you happen to be in. This greatly limits the possible answers. Search also doesn't do well with short or common words, saying that they are too common and it doesn't even try. This is especially frustrating with three letter acronyms, which we use a lot.

I find the easiest way to search for an existing topic is to use a single word, check to search by title only, and look through the topics offered. However, this doesn't aways work as expected, as searching for "recipe" doesn't yield titles containing "recipes", so you have to search for both.

Hopefully that helps,
Steve

Hey Steve,

Any plans to get a "delete thread " option attached to the thread tools drop down, on the message boards?

Is there a specific reason for not allowing the OP to remove a thread? I know the forum software allows it.
