Forgive me if I’m addressing a topic already covered elsewhere, but I couldn’t find much on the subject.

Anyone have experience with this engine? I’d be interested in how well it has performed across the board (for example, I hear the torque is legendary, but has it helped get you out of a jam?).

Perhaps you’ve replaced an older engine with this one? Example, replacing an old v8 or a 200 or 300 Tdi?).

I hear the good stuff all the time, but it always seems to be anecdotal; not direct experience.

Many thanks!

The R2.8 is my planned engine replacement for my D1 when the V8 finally gives up. It’s a fantastic option compared to a new rover v8 running the ancient mgmt. I plan on bolting up a common GM auto transmission and the rebuilt factory transfer case unless advance adaptors begins supporting the ZF boxes. If that happens before my swap I’ll put an Ashcroft rebuilt slush box behind it.

That sounds like a great program. The Ashcroft is outstanding. Because we plan on more deep forest exploration, we opted for the Tremec TR4050 and a serpentine drive + the Cummins on our D90. We have the opportunity to break the whole thing down and take our time on each component. Probably won’t be done until 2040, but hey. It’ll work well! :)
