We entered CR in the dry season, what it is now, and ended up parking our van and flying back to the States for a couple months. We returned in the wet season and found it much more to our liking. Obviously during the wet season anytime being off pavement can become very sticky. Routes wise nothing jumps out but there are things we'd recommend doing. If you haven't seen Quetzals yet, El Mirador de los Quetzales is a great spot. Once we knew what they sounded like, we were able to spot them again ourselves when we visited Bosque Nuboso Monteverde. One of our favorite places to camp was Suenos del Bosque which isn't very far from El Mirador de los Quetzales and is at a great altitude (not as high as the los Quetzales but high enough for sweaters and a great reprieve from the heat.). The tour at Frog's Heaven, (Heredia) was worth the night parked along the road. Manuel Antonio is expensive but it is one of the prettiest Pacific beaches. Get there early and hike to the beach without stopping. After a couple hours the crowds at the beach will begin to grow. Take your time walking back out, stopping to view the animals and to catch what the guides are pointing out and explaining. Uvita Falls is worth the stop and all of the other main stuff is nice and at your discretion. If you are wanting to zipline, 100% Aventura is the absolute best. We spent a total of 80 days in CR and did like it even though it is much different than the rest of CA. We prefer Guat, El Sal, and Honduras but CR does have a lot of things available that we couldn't locate so the convenience was a nice break.
