The wife and I are planning to take a break from the snow and cold and make a journey from sunny Alberta to the Palm Desert area via the coastal highway 101 route. We will leave around February 2nd get across the border and then head west. Not sure if we will take Hwy 12 west or go a bit further south then west. I have been doing a lot of google maps researching hoping to get to warmer weather where we can utilize our camper and stay in state or national parks and on occasion private campgrounds as well. We have a Tacoma, truck camper and small trailer - full off grid setup. No set timeline or definite destinations other than seeing the coast, craft breweries & the occasional good dining stop, the Redwoods, Joshua Tree area so am open to suggestions.

Lots of camping in big sur area. Also hit up lost coast, plenty of breweries and camping in redwoods near the coast. Once you get out of big sur there are plenty of places to camp in the national forests or state beach sites. The state beaches will require a reservation though. Jalama is beautiful, a little out of the way but first come first served and on the beach
