Y'all I have the Wilson 1000 magnetic antenna with the big whip
I also have the handheld cobra Cobra HH 38 WX ST 4-Watt 40-Channel CB Radio

Anyone have any experience with these two or thoughts I'm
Not going to buy a new cb I happen to have both of these items around the house.

I'll just comment that in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with hooking up a portable radio to an external antenna and using that. I did exactly this when commuting in a Nissan Leaf with my ham radio since the WAF (wife acceptance factor) would have been too low if I mounted a mobile radio in the small car. :grin:

Once area you'll need to look out for is that you'll probably want to always use batteries vs. plugging into the car. It will really depend, but sometimes you can get some nasty motor whine in your transmitted and received signals, so isolation is key -- however you might get lucky and get a clean signal.

Should be fine, Wilson makes some of the best antennas on the market, make sure you set the SWR on the antenna , it takes an inexpensive meter to do it , see if you have a friend that has one you can borrow because it only has to be set once. This is important because if it isn't set correctly it will damage the radio, try to keep the antenna centered on the roof, trunk,hood if possible for best performance
