So, I just decided to cancel my monthly HBO subscription to become a monthly supporter of Overland Bound.
Since purchasing my dream vehicle (Jeep JKU) a few months ago and stumbling upon the overlanding community, I've felt more motivated than I have in years. Work has a new purpose (providing funds to outfit my vehicle), "outside" has new meaning, and 10+ hour drives feel like a walk in the park knowing I'm heading to a new location to explore the known, discover the unknown, and test my ability to survive and thrive.
It would be an honor to trade my channel-surfing weekends for terrain-conquering weekends, and I find this community to not only be extremely helpful and informative, but one that has led me to meet some really great people. I recently moved from NY to IL, and since June have struggled to make new friends or meet people outside of whoever I sat next to at the bar. Overland Bound has made me comfortable enough to know that my Jeep doesn't need a 6" lift, expensive modifications, or a kidney listed on the black market to get out of the house and seek new adventures. For that, I'm eternally grateful and could not be more appreciative of the work that @Michael, @Corrie, and the OB staff have done to make this possible.
Coming from the Hudson Valley region in NY, I've always enjoyed hiking and camping but never thought to use my vehicle as my base camp. That's mostly because I've spent my entire adult life driving vehicles that simply weren't capable, well, that is after selling my very first vehicle - an 88 Jeep Cherokee that my parents gave to me with 200,000 miles when got my leaner's permit at 16. Shortly after getting my license at 17, the engine went. I started learning to work on it with my father, and basically fixed everything from the front to the back over the next two years before selling it with 240,000 miles on it and buying a Mustang (silly boy.)
I didn't know it then, but I'd eventually fall in love with working on cars and consider myself a pretty capable "weekend mechanic". Overlanding has given me an excuse to bolt things onto my vehicle, replace worn out parts, and hit to trails to test myself and my rig out. Like a true addict, I live, breath, and sleep Jeep now and am always hunting for the next mod and the next trail to use it on. Over the next few months, I'll be slowly building my rig up to hit the Trans America Trail from east coast to west coast - taking 6 weeks to really dive in and explore while recording and documenting the whole thing.
I just wanted to show my appreciation for Overland Bound, do my part to help, and solidify my involvement as a supporter and member of this great community. OUTFIT & EXPLORE!
