Camping in mid-october

How cold / snowy is it typically mid-october? The plan is to go up to southern CO for a camping, hopeully a little trail riding with the family. The kids have a long weekend from school so the plan is to head up there for a couple days. We're from DFW and Im afraid it'll be too cold for camping. Ive viewed plenty of snow wheeling videos on youtube but the closest snow wheeling I have is when it freezes here :)

What area do you have in mind?

There's not really a limit other than your preparation. We've done OB trips down into the teens at night with 9 in of snow. What sort of tent and/or cold weather gear do you have, if any? It all goes back to watching the forecast and what elevation you plan. Having said all of that, I usually sleep in my truck which makes it much more bearable than in a tent on the ground.

It sounds like you may be headed to my area so if you're up for some company and maybe a guide, let me know. Otherwise, I'll still be happy to help you with any advice.

I was thinking Trinidad area but anywhere southern CO. I have a couple pop-up tents and handful of sleeping bags, but the bags are rated to ~50 :) I forgot about that LOL

I suspect you'll be fine. Just watch the forecast. It's nice to have a little buddy heater just to break the chill in the morning when you're getting up, etc.

Don't make my mistake and wear too much clothing to bed. If your bag is that warm it'll make you sweat and then you WILL get cold.
