The Big Bend offers a lot of interesting off-highway adventures. It's a great destination with a lot of climbing, canoeing, rafting, and camping also. Its desert - so take water....

I have climbed in Santa Elena Canyon and on Paisano Peak (private) near Alpine.

Any recommendations on camping areas for rooftop tents?

They're everywhere. Pretty much any camping spot there (that I know of or can think of right off hand) will work for RTT's. Obviously I don't know every spot and am not an expert but still. We stay at Rancho Tapango camp grounds usually because they have nice bathrooms and showers. It's a private camp ground between the national park and state park. Our last trip down there in March was 11 days.

In Big Bend there are no trees except by the river so bring your own shade. There's plenty of info out there about Big Bend and the camp sites. Enjoy the trip. It's an amazing place.

When you get there go to the Panther Junction gift shop and buy this book. It's $3.95 and lists the roads and interesting things to see on them. It's a great resource. There are probably others but $3.95 fits my budget perfectly.

Actually I was thinking about going next week. 4/8- whenever. I was planning a little later but other things have come up so it’s either now or in the fall.

We went a few weeks ago... loved it. We didn't camp this time... stayed in Terlingua Ghost town... that was great too. Good people... Trails - Hiking / Offroad are awesome. Chisos Mountains for Hikes for sure... South Rim trail, unbelievable views.
