Hey after california’s big rainstorms that closed much of highway one and Big Sur things are finally starting to open up again. Im wondering if anyone’s been camping in Big Sur recently, if so where’d you go, what roads are opened?

Thanks!

Hwy 1 closed on the southern end yesterday due to a sinkhole. The only free camping used to be Prewitt Ridge. I haven't been there since the fire a year or so ago. There are some spots on Plaskett ridge also.

I just checked Nacimiento-Fergusson Road is still closed; Los Padres National Forest - Recreation

So the only way to the campgrounds is up Plaskett Ridge Rd.

Coming in from the North the last place for food and fuel is at Carmel Valley Rd. Fuel in Big Sur is $$$$$$!

Yeah, Naci/Ferg on the west side was completely washed out…washed “away”, really. They’re rebuilding the whole thing.
I have heard the road to the south near Treebones resort can get you up there. Tacticalbushcrafter_overlanding (IG) knows it like the back of his hand.
That may not help you from the north, but you can drive down the 101 to Fort Hunter Liggett and pick up that side of Naci/Ferg to get to Prewitt Ridge though.

Trip report,

Me and another buddy went down to Big Sur down the 101 to Paso Robles then up to Los burros road and we’re met with closed gates. We also tried yo get up through Plaskett ridge and we’re met with another closed gate. We ended up camping on Carrizo plain BLM area

Had a buddy who got up and down plaskett 2 weeks ago, still don’t know how or what the deal was.
