Hey you guys!

Some folks have noticed that their location on the Member Map is not exactly where they defined it to be in the "Map Location" field of their "Personal Details" page.

This is intentional. The dots on he map are generally within [UPDATED] 1 kilometer of your location. If there is a large number of members in your area, the dots are within [UPDATED] 1000 meters of the cluster.

The Reason: For privacy reasons, we don't want folks to be able to know exactly where you are. The member map is seen by thousands of people world-wide. The goal of the map is to allow people to connect with other Overland Bound members in your area. We figure 5 miles is accurate enough to do this, without revealing your exact location.

Let me know if you have any questions!

This is intentional. The dots on he map are generally within 5 miles of your location. If there is a large number of members in your area, the dots are within (at a max) 25 miles.

There is a reason I only have the greater metro area where I live listed, and for quite a while I just had it down to the state.

I appreciate the data fuzzing for privacy, especially since we talk about our gear and vehicles. I would not want this to be a research resource for thieves. Although, it would be a little funny to watch them try in my neighborhood...

I did the same thing for the same reasons. Funny to think that my intentions could potentially be counterproductive. Time to look at the map haha.
