Hello,

If I add a tire carrier to my 17 GX 460, I’d want to put wheel locks on all 5 wheels. All the toyota/Lexus sets only come with four wheel locks (the toyota parts guy said buy two sets). Am I missing something or is that a disaster waiting to happen?

I’m looking for a wheel lock recommendation or advice on this issue. Are wheel locks even worth it?

Thanks

yes, read all the threads of people who got stuck with a flat and a lost or broken lug nut key. I'd sooner do an insurance claim for stolen tires than walk out 20 miles and come back with a deck truck. Seriously, if you are an overlander who leaves civilization, cell service and AAA behind, don't do wheel locks.

Wheel locks are not worth it.

Thief's have wheel lock removers anyways. It's a toothed impact nut that you hammer on. Then use a battery powered 1/2" impact while pushing as hard as possible and it'll spin right off.

I did hundreds of them as a tire tech to pay for heavy diesel truck school. So has every shady tire tech. Many never completed school to become master techs, and are now exactly the shady types scoping out your campsite.

A criminal is a criminal and if they are determined enough and have enough time that can steal just about anything. It is about slowing them down or making a deterrent because it will take too long.
