When you get back would you mind reporting back on the trail conditions at Coyote Flats? I'm headed up there in early August and I'd love to know what to expect! The area around Bishop is always a blast to explore - hope you have a great time!
There are obviously a ton of amazing off-road trails in the area, however, there's also countless incredible things that don't require 4x4 to see! The drive up 395 is my favorite route ever - I've done it probably 25 times in my life, and every time I discover something I've never seen before...
Coyote Creek (leading to Coyote Flats) is one of my very favorite trails. Here are a few shots from my drive there on Thanksgiving weekend (literally the day before this year's snowfall began!) Again, not sure what the conditions are like up there this year, but I think your rig should be fine...
No way, what a coincidence!
Anza Borrego is a must - check out Lower Coyote Creek and 17 Palms Oasis when you go (there's a ton of other trails there which I have yet to explore).
In Joshua Tree we did Geology Tour Road and Berdoo Canyon which were great (though next time I would start Berdoo...
Campsites from our Easter weekend camping trip!
The rig and our tent at the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, CA:
View of the Alabama Hills and Mount Whitney from the tent:
Our campsite at the Trona Pinnacles. Didn't realize how phallic the pinnacles are until I got home and looked at my...
That's totally fair, they definitely aren't space-savers. I've got a 4runner with a roof rack so it works for us just fine, but not everyone has as much cargo room. I should also mention I'm 6'1" tall so that kinda limits my options when looking for something to stretch out on.
My wife and I recently went to REI to get her some hiking boots, but we wandered into the camping department and noticed they had a XL REI 3.5" Sleeping Pad on display. We each tried it out and were shocked by how comfortable it was! REI has a great return policy, so on a whim we went ahead...
Seconding @MarioDidIt's recommendation to drive up from LA through the Eastern Sierras - Highway 395 is my absolute favorite road trip route, and there's a TON of stuff to see along the way. Alabama Hills is definitely a good one. I also recommend Red Rock Canyon State Park (esp. Last Chance...
I recently visited Joshua Tree and had a great time. We did Geology Tour Road through Berdoo Canyon, but if I could do it again, I'd do it the other way around - start Berdoo Canyon from the south and enter into the park via Geology Tour Road - it's a lot more scenic going in that direction.
Southern California is full of so many amazing places within just a few hours! Some of my recent favorite trips have been Red Rock Canyon State Park and Anza Borrego State Park! I also did Trona Pinnacles and Alabama Hills last weekend which were both fantastic. Tons of great stuff up 395...
Howdy everyone,
I'm a new member from Burbank, CA! Here's my rig:
Something a little different. It's a 2000 Toyota 4Runner that I've modified to have a post-apocalyptic Mad Max aesthetic! The rust is all fake, and I only put the props on the roof rack for photo shoots and local events like...
