Active satellite connection just means the device has to be able to reach the satellites. It won’t work in a steel building and I doubt it would work in the basement of a building. No subscription other than the inReach subscription.
Regarding the new phones, the ability to press the SOS button...
I’m not sure if Gaia shows private property lines or not but that’s my biggest issue.
Garmin Tread shows property lines There’s nothing worse than doing a long trip and driving up to a locked gate.
I think it’s complete BS that they can shut it down like this, the road should remain passable...

Explore really shouldn’t be missing this section that tread has. I have yet to run this trail but by looking at satellite images, it does look like it continues and connects where’s Explore shows it ending in the trees.
Someone somewhere said the app has to be open before you lose reception. I had this area downloaded prior to heading out, I just didn’t have the app open until I got there.
I don’t even remember what I said lol
I do watch them but not on YouTube, they use a bunch of garmin stuff and I want to say I saw them with the Overlander XL. When I saw it I thought it was just a tablet with a cool case and the garmin app.
My old inReach mini only has support for Earthmate...
