I am not sure what they fetch where you live, but you would be hard pushed to get anything better than a Toyota, proven on every continent to be reliable and the professionals choice.

Yes I hired a Toyota Prado for Fraser Island.
I would highly recommend the company Noosa2Fraser they specialise in vehicles for the beach and supplied recovery gear, cool box and chairs, they even supplied a blow up donut and pump for the children.
The trailer is a prototype that I have built...
If anybody finds themselves in Australia and fancy Fraser Island, I would highly recommend Noosa2Fraser supplied a Land Cruiser with cold box , chairs, body boards and blow up toys for the water and pump. Also all recovery equipment supplied.

Awesome trip so far. I did get a bit worried at the top end of Rainbow beach as we had left it a bit late for the tides so found ourselves rapidly running out of beach.

Hi, I went for the Timbren system on The Escape Pod, 4" lift and long shafts as I am running 285/75/r16 tyres. Initially I was aiming for a light weight build so just went with the 1500ibs option but soon found that I was bottoming out the suspension. I have to say that Timbren were brilliant...

My good friend Bob Seaborn from Compass Adventures in the UK who specialises in Trips to the Artic circle swears by the Tentipi with a frontier stove, reckons it keeps you toasty even when it is 40 below.

To be honest I know very little about them because they lost popularity in the uk 25 years ago. I know that the V8 had a few problems (I am not sure about the specifics) and the power to size ratio was not worth the extra running costs, where as the TDi was loved world wide almost instantly...
Having owned and run many of the LR power plants, it simply comes down to how remote you are going. I would trust the 300tdi engine (Disco 1) the take me around the world one if the most bullet proof engines going. Td5 Lots more complications.
