I went about the same path you did and wish I would have adjusted my investments a little... Focus on lift, tires AND wheels. I made the budget mistake of going with tires wrapped on stock wheels. I regretted not switching wheels as well. I finally got a set of Sparco Terra wheels (5) along with...
You're pretty close to Red River, plenty of fly fishing there. You can literally (during season) camp less than 50 from the river starting about a mile from Red River west all the way to Questa.
It would be great to see some daylight shots of your system. It definitely looks like you managed to get a full length cot configuration. How big is the box to support the bed and are you doing anything special with it like a chuck kit?
Thanks for sharing!!
Ok, so I am running the following off my alternator/main battery with no issues:
Trail lights (low driving LED bar 20", pairof ditch lights, 32" LED light bar, pair of backup LED pods)
Midland 275 GMRS 15w radio
Rear accessory charge port with volt meter, connected to Jackery 500, connected to...
I guess my general question back to you would be: "Are you sure you need a dual battery setup?"... from some of your comments it seems general power back up whether on road, base camp, or home may be your real need (power outage in TX due to unexpected weather event, etc.). Having a small cabin...
Slowly building out my '18 Crosstrek... Most of my underbody protection, auxiliary trail lighting, and interior electric built out. Using Jackery 500 as my auxiliary power supply as that is more versatile for my needs. Just upgraded from RalliTek springs to Flatout Suspension GR Plus. I'd push...
My solution for dealing with the Hitchgate Solo for Subaru (and less than 5x114) wheels... 5x114 to 5x110 15mm wheel spacer.
You'll have to find a stud and lugnut that is large enough for the pre-milled holes... I needed to go for a 14mmx1.25 with enough shoulder to bite into the spacer, but it...
I know this was setup to discuss the unique challenges of smaller rigs with traditionally limited capability like low ground clearance, approach angles, GVWR, etc. But it seems more capable rigs have entered the discussion that seem more capable and maybe more like full-size rigs? Not sure a...
I highly recommend the Falken Wildpeak Trails. I have had mine over a year and NO COMPLAINTS! Barely more weight than stock... Quite frankly, surprised SOA doesn't just make them standard for models in US... Especially the trail focused models (Crosstrek, Forrester, and Outback, esp X models)
Thanks! Actually, I used the magdaddies to route the coax back to to the right tail light grommet and then along the right side of the cabin interior.
Antenna was mounted into the plastic cap facing the tailgate. I think it came out pretty clean and good performance without wacking the garage...
Found that my original choice for extension cable was not performing as expected. Was getting SWR of around 1.85, which is no bueno. Switched it out for a new longer, less expensive one and SWR is down to 1.06.
My new cable choice is less expensive, longer, has more connectors, and out performs...
