Got the new rubber mounted, ARB awning acquired, Winch mount ordered and roof rack ready to be installed.... Need to do some minor trimming on the plastic bits but the tires fit just fine.
I'm building a 1998 Z71 extended cab... I planned on ordering the CV's noted above in the next month or so and want to experiment with relocating the control arm droop bump stops to provide more articulation. I just ordered larger wheels and tires (305/70/16's) to help with ground clearance...
You will find there are a lot of us here who want to get together but never make it happen including myself. If you guys follow this thread, I promise we will get more involved with creating events and content. I'm just getting my feet back on the ground here in okc.
I cant make this trip as much as I would like to. I need to rebuild the front suspension and steering of the old Z71 this weekend. I've been white knuckle driving this truck so long my hair has turned silver...
Hey All!!! I am pretty new to the Ovrland Bound group and new to California. Previously I lived in Oklahoma and ran a rock crawling group, Oklahoma Jeepers. Since my move to California I sold my Crawling rig for a full size truck to be converted into a capable overland rig. My 1998 Z71 will be...
Here is the beginnings of my overland project rig.
The plan is to keep it simple stupid which is total a 180 from my previous rock Krawler build.
33-35 in tires, minimal lift for low center of gravity. Front and rear recovery winch, on board air and storage for kitchen and camp gear. Not sure...

Your making me want to install a set on my Z71.... My truck is due for a set of shocks, for the price I think I might opt for the dual reservoir shocks.
I very much agree. I was big into rock krawling for about 10 years and my main rig was a 2008 Jeep JKU on 37's and dana 60's powered by a 5.7 hemi. That was a great krawler. The 98 Z71 wil be a whole different beast. Low CG, built to be reliable and drive like a daily driver yet be capable...
I am currently building my recently acquired 1998 Z71 extended cab. 300k on the clock and dead reliable, looks and drives like new. The 5.7 has decent power, I can fit 33's on the truck in stock form, no big expensive lift required. It has plenty of storage and ground clearance for most...
What are the chances we can meet up with the group in Sonora? Do you have an ETA on when you think the caravan will be traveling through? This will be our first true Overlanding trip and are excited to get involved even though we will likely be woefully under equipped in comparison to most...
