Getting excited to test out my new upgrades.
Nissan Xterra S 2013
Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/75/16 E
AJ's Off-road Square Sliders
Habitat Off-road Front and Back Recovery
It's a start. Already dreaming of a Titan suspension/diff swap but... baby steps. I'll get there.
I've got that feeling right now. My rig is in the shop getting upgrades. I know I don't need it. But the fact that it's not in my parking space kind of makes me... uneasy.
Super excited though. I'm getting my rock sliders put on and I'm adding recovery points too.
Anyone else get that feeling...
Totally understood. I appreciate the point. Yeah, I don't plan on getting myself stuck. Since I'm just getting started I'm not sure what my vehicle limits are. I plan to be careful, but just looking to have a backup plan for the backup plan. Stock Xterra's got a lot of plastic front and back, so...
Ah, yes. I did think of that, however I don't have a hitch receiver. Something I plan to rectify with a new bumper in about a year. I'm also aware that there are recovery point mods for the rear of an Xterra that require some bumper cutting.
Doing rear recovery mods at this point aren't really...
I'm working out my first trail-ready mod necessities with my new Xterra. Started with decent tires, maxtraxs and a shovel. However, I'm realizing that I have no good recovery points and I'm looking for some advice. It's fairly trivial for me to add recovery to the front of the frame (there's...
Thanks again everyone for the help. I ended up going with Nitto Terra Grapplers LT265/75/16 with E load rating. They leave me with about a half inch of fender clearance at full lock and the spare still fits nicely in the underside of the truck. Super happy about them, they feel good on the...
This has all been so helpful. Thank you everyone for the input.
I'm noticing that Toyo's new AT3 has a much more hybrid-style agressive tread than the AT2. I know I'm gonna spend more time on pavement than dirt, but I want to be able to at least keep up with you all on the trail!
Ah yes! I've been poking around on thenewx. Great info, really helping me identify mods that will work for me. Thanks for the tip. Excuse me while I research and learn all about sidewall strength for the next 4 hours.
Hey all. I'm super excited. Finally purchased my first 4x4, a 2013 Xterra. My plan is daily driver / road tripper / weekend warrior trail camping.
I'm eyeing my tire options as the first thing I do. I'm looking at the Nitto Ridge Grapplers and the Yokohama Geolandar ATs.
I'm looking for some...
Hey all. I managed to hunt down a 2011 Pro 4x trim pretty close to me and I'm gonna go check it out. I'm wondering if anyone has advice on the top things to assess when I go take a look.
It's got more milage than I was hoping 160k, but this trim is hard to find. I know it's out of the "pink...
That's great advice. I figure though that the cost difference I'm seeing between pro-4x and other trims, it still makes more sense to lock after. Plus it seriously opens up my buying options. It's hard to find those pro-4x models with less than 150k on them. At least in my neck of the woods...
Newbie here. Starting to plan my first rig. I'm on the hunt for a Nissan Xterra and I've got a question about buying a trim with diff lockers or buying one without and modifying later.
It seems that the trim with factory lockers runs between 5-8k more and it includes things that I'll replace...
This build looks great! I'm taking notes. I'm brand new to overlanding and starting my research to build my first rig. I've got my eye on the Xterra as a platform. I really like it's size to capability ratio. If anyone has tips for hunting down a decent 2nd Gen Xterra I'm all ears.
