How has the Covid-19 virus affected your adventures?

Thank you for the kind words. I don't understand the concept of "quitting" or of "giving up". I will find a way, I always have. I hope everyone else will be able to persevere in these tough times as well.

How has the Covid-19 virus affected your adventures?

All our adventures and gear upgrades are cancelled. I got my layoff notice so I'm out of work by the end of April thanks to a combination of covid and the cratering oil prices. To add insult to injury, due to covid virtually nobody is hiring in any industry here. We'll be ok for a few months...

    What do YOU consider "capable"?

Capability is highly subjective. I would consider a Toyota Tundra crew max 4x4 with a Diamond Back tonneau, removeable Victory 4x4 rack, Bilstein 6112 shocks to level it out and Cooper ST Maxx or AT3 XLT tires to be highly capable. I fish, hunt, shoot, camp and explore the backcounty. My friend...

    Trail Security

I'm Canadian too. Short barrelled shotguns are my bush guns of choice. As I mentioned above, a Maverick 88 is my go to gun. It has a 18.5" barrel and the receiver is aluminum. It's pretty light. I have no issue carrying it while hiking and exploring. In fact, it feels weird to me to be walking...

    Camp entertainment

If I'm not on the water fly fishing, we're usually playing cribbage, horeshoes, reading, etc. I do a little fly tying now and then in camp. Occasionally I'll try my hand at whittling/wood carving but I'm lousy at it. I honestly enjoy chopping wood so I've been known to buck up enough for a week...

    Trail Security

I'm not the guy you asked, but I have a Maverick 88. I legitimately have over 12,000 rounds through it. I've deliberately beaten the crap out of it just to see how much abuse it can take. Dropped it, kicked it, thrown it, sunk it in water salt and fresh, sunk it in mud, frozen it, fired and...

    What is the one spice

If blends count, then the SPGO seasoning I make batches of and use on a ton of stuff'. Salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. If I had to choose only on spice, then it would be pepper.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like it may work out well for us!

    Hitch Reciever Recovery Point

Great info, thanks everyone! My recoveries are mainly going to be pulling people out of snowbanks, just a gentle tug to get them back onto the road. I don't play in deep heavy mud, or boulder fields. I'll give the cheapest, easiest method a try first and if I have to upgrade I'll start off with...

    Hitch Reciever Recovery Point

Oh nice, I've never heard of Just Jeeps. The one I found was on Truck Accessories. Dunno why Just Jeeps didn't come up in my search. Good point.

    Hitch Reciever Recovery Point

Those would honestly be awesome. They're $80 + shipping a piece here in Canada though. I could snag 2 of the Smittybilt hitch versions for that and either have a spare or have one to use on someone's truck that doesn't have tow points. The cheapest option would really be what Dilldog mentioned...

    Hitch Reciever Recovery Point

I'm in need of a recovery point for my truck and for my situation, on of the hitches with a shackle on it look to be ideal. Main use would be to pull other vehicles out of snow banks and use as a hook up point if I ever get stuck. No seriously hard offroad recoveries. Right now, I'm debating...

    Gazelle Tent

Anyone have pictures of one of these with a cot or two inside? We're debating between a Gazelle Tent or a Springbar. Need to fit 2 cots inside with a bit of room to spare though.

    Your one "must have"

It's not a camping trip without Pat McManus! I "discovered" him as a kid and remember reading A Fine and Pleasant Misery by flashlight in the tent for the first time while camping with my dad. I woke dad up with my stifled laughter. These days, I read McManus books to my wife before bed while...

What is your must-have recovery gear?

I really need to get a winch. Like you, I travel alone most of the time. Being able to get unstuck by myself is critical.

What is your must-have recovery gear?

Apologies if this has been done before, I couldn't find anything. If you were to build a recovery bag from scratch, what would you make sure you put in it? Maybe a budget version and a non-budget version?

    Animal Encounters

Black bear: While fishing a remote river in northeastern BC, I was bushwhacking into gravel bar. When I popped out of the bush, I found that I was sharing the gravel bar with a young black bear maybe 30 yards away. I told him he could have it and started backing away. He began bouncing on his...

    Camping Whisk(e)y?

Bourbon: Knob Creek, Buffalo Trace, Bulleit Scotch: Highland Park 12, Glenfarclas, Glenrothes, Talisker Storm (also an excellent addition to coffee btw).
