Thanks for trying.
I agree that it's likely a losing battle, but as a wise man once told me it's not always the winning and losing that determines a battle's worth. Seems to me the answer to this, like most things, is to follow the money. Or, more accurately, make the money lead to the outcome...
Resurrecting an older thread here, but I think this is important for Overlanders to understand. The Southern Utah Wilderness Association (SUWA) is a group that is actively...and successfully...working to restrict access to US Public Lands to motorized vehicles. Right now they are targeting...
We will be exploring the GSE about the same time! We'll start heading NE from Kanab on the 22nd. If we cross paths, we'd be happy to share a fire or coffee.
I'm interested! Funny, I was just looking at what 270 I was going to get for my new rig and ran across the OVS Nomadic. I really like that it extends further out from the rear of the vehicle since that is where we cook (Gladiator). I do have a pretty tall vehicle. Did I see somewhere that the...
The FS roads on the south side of the Cohutta Wilderness, and I think some of the Tray Mountain FS roads, are now closed for the season by the FS. They open back up around March 15.
I like FatMap for visualizing the route and finding great camping spots. It is a 3D satellite map viewer (much like Google Earth) that is optimized for outdoor activities. While motorized vehicle travel isn't on that they emphasize at all (it's mostly for skiing and biking), it is really useful...
Your definition of arguing is different than mine, it appears. If having a discussion to gain clarity and understanding is arguing, then I might be the most disagreeable fellow on the planet. Slightly (very) off-topic perhaps, but hardly arguing.
So sorry you aren't having fun anymore.
Okay...I can't stand it. I did grow up on a farm :)
Two or three stages of tillage. The first is plowing...it cuts the ground and turns it over. There are disc plows, but it's not common at all. The second is a disc, also called 'disk harrowing' in the southeast where I drove tractors at...
Great ride today! Thanks @ovrlndafterlife, @FrontierMatt, and @not_yoda for a fun ride together. The trail was great, with lots of mist in the moutains and a stiff cold breeze where we crossed the AT. The ride down the southeast side of the trail was way smoother than the bumpy ride up from the...
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow between 1 pm and 4 pm! It will be a great chance to meet some new people, make some connections and, perhaps, find some like-minded people who want to roll out for a trip together at some point. Feel free to drop in for a bit or a long time. And...
We love our Ooni. I haven't taken it Overlanding yet, but it is definitely in my plans for a short trip. It makes superb pizza, but it can get very, very hot...so watch it closely. I had it set a crust on fire withing 30 seconds once!
Also, a pair of tongs goes a long, long way to spinning the...
Glad that you can make it! None of us are vets in the meetup department, so you'll be right at home. We are just looking to meet some other folks who love this stuff too, and maybe make a few connections that lead to some group rides at some point. Looking forward to meeting you.
