Got round to hooking the winch up after work but found out that the cable I had to get power from the battery isn't long enough so still not working till hopefully tomorrow but it's good to see how it looks hooked up.
Over the last few days I added some lights to my rig, one 6" light bar on the back and an led light strip (not in any photos) on the awning. I put a nice big hole in the panel with a grommet bigger than I needed so I should be able to run power to plenty more accessories on my roof if the need...
Also, I don't know what the laws are there for importing them but the Australian army are auctioning off hundreds of old perentie defenders atm for pretty good price, all with the old 3.2l Isuzu diesel which will keep running forever. Plenty of variants which could be converted to great overland...
As someone who drives a defender every day I will say that this is not 100% true. I am an average size guy (5'11") and have no trouble with cramped knees and if you do a company called mulgo make extenders for the seat slides. Also in regards to width and feeling cramp, yes the seat is close to...
Last week I ordered a winch off an online store. It is a cheep, chinese built 12ooo lb unit called the Domin8r previously branded as Tigerz11 and now 4wd Supa Centre. As I said it is just a cheapie but I have heard pretty good things about them and it comes with a 5 year warranty so I figured I...
Yesterday I headed out to Big Bend on the Burdekin river with a couple of mates. Dozens of great tracks, and spotted plenty of camp sites that we plan to head back to soon to spend a bit longer there.
We also spotted this nice 6x6 ranger on our way there
Actually I just remembered that there is a stand down period at work around that time so I might just be able to make it, thats a big might but we'll see.
Damn, I'd love to make it but just a bit too far for a weekend, maybe sometime we can set up a big Overland Bound Oz cape or Vic High Country trip and get everyone there.
Have a great time everyone that makes it there.
I have always loved defenders and I felt I had to finally get one last year as it would be my last chance to pick one up new.
In an age where everything is becoming computerised and so many 4wds are covered in plastic panels and made for comfort on the highway rather than utility it has not...
You already use plenty of equipment which is not home grown and from what I read into the article they are looking for a platform similar to our SAS's perentie LRPVs or G wagon recon variant the former of which i know US SF have liked in the middle east. For the relatively small numbers required...
Surely the Land Cruiser they mean is the 70 series in which case I would expect it to win the tender as it is by far the best work horse of the 3. Either way none of those vehicles are sold in the USA so which ever one wins the tender will also likely make its way onto American roads in its...
I'm in the process of getting a 55L auxiliary tank at the moment as it is pretty much a necessity here, especially as I am planning a solo trip which will involve multiple legs of over 1000km without anywhere to fill up. I will also have to stick a couple of Jerrys on the roof for peace of mind...
Always apply a pressure bandage over the bite sites but make sure you don't rub or disturb the bite as you want there to still be venom which can be swabbed to identify the appropriate anti venom. Then if you have the supplies, bandage from the extremities of the limb towards the body leaving...
What do you want to use it for? The requirements for a rig are different if you want to use it for touring, rock crawling, etc... Be careful with large lifts like you mentioned unless you need them. Rubicon stock are very capable and if you lift it 4 inches and put 35s on it it will be more...
Good article, I agree with pretty much all the comments, the best mod you can make to increase the performance of a vehicle off road is good tyres.
One thing I haven't seen posted however is recovery points. If your rig doesn't have any way of getting out if it is stuck it doesn't matter how...
