Reviving this thread... who would have known about COVID when I first started this post. We're now considering dispersed camping along the Alpine Loop. Does anyone know if there are specific places we can camp for the night? Or more important, specific places we need to avoid to setup camp for...
Hey Everyone - I'm researching any trails for West Virginia. I'll be coming from Illinois. I'm looking to also hit the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway (DBBB) in Kentucky.
What I'm running:
2001 Montero XLS
4.90 Gears (front / rear)
33" BFG KO2s
2" OME HD Lift (front / rear)
RTT
Lighting
LED...
This would be fun. Was planning a trip in June but COVID has probably ruined that.
How do I sign-up / register for this? Are you guys using GMRS? I don't have a CB.
Seriously!
Thanks - this is awesome. LMK if I can ping you with some questions once I've had a chance to review in more detail. Are you local to the area or familiar with it to give perspective?
Thanks. I'll look those up. Maybe it gets us closer to Moab from there and I can sneek that in. Do you have any GPX / KML files for reference with the Picayne/Placer route to depart via Ouray?
Have about 1 - 2 weeks. I've been through Leadville before and had a fun time exploring, plus it'll get us towards I-70 for me to head back to IL if we spend all of our time in CO.
Really just looking for a good route to take the kids on an adventure. The geography is also different from the SW...
Hi - if anyone has advice for leaving the Alpine Loop Trail at Lake City, going towards Gunnison, then Leadville and ultimately Vail, CO please let me know. Timeframe of this trip is June, 2020 (snow melt permitting).
I'm building my route right now via GAIA.
Tips on any dispersed camping...
Hey - I'm planning a trip to CO with my friend (he's coming from AZ, I'm coming from IL). We're going to be out there in June (probably early). Our plan B is to head to Utah if the snow is blocking access to the Alpine Loop.
I'm planning a route that starts us off in Silverton, and then heads...
I'm also in the Chicago area (western burbs) and originally from AZ (up until 5 years ago). Higher elevations might have snow, so you'll want to account for that... it's really more once you get into the lower / southern parts of the state that things are warmer.
I'm planning a trip with a...
Unfortunately we did not... had an unexpected failure with the rail mounts on my Montero, so we headed home on day 2 of our trip. We did about half of the Trans Wisconsin Trail... I'm hopeful that this 7 HR Plane Crash is better. Not many options for a good trail to run in the Midwest I'm afraid.
Anyone here do this?
Anyone here interested to do this?
I just finished a trip through WI with my boys, but I want to head out for a longer trip, more remote, and wheel to the Grand Tetons.
Late to this Forum and this Thread.
Location: Western Burbs
Vehicle: Gen 3 Montero
Setup: Touring (2" lift, RTT)
(Recent trip to the dunes in Michigan)
Thanks for posting this. I'm considering trying it out this weekend. Coming from the Chicagoland area. It's either TWAT, your plane route, or the Daniel Boone trail in KY.
