Bmw M52. Which actually IS a Land Rover engine! When BMW bought LR in the late 90's the South Africa plant ditched the Rover V8 and put this engine in them for 5 years. Great motor! And while I would have loved to put in a V12, I don't want to feed it!!!

Well, here is mine. Jeeves is certainly unusual. Headed to the Sahara in southern Tunisia a week from tomorrow in it for a month long desert research expedition! Basically, it's what Cruella de Ville would have driven if she drove a defender!

    Adventure bound to the Sahara!

Hello, I thought I would introduce myself and Jeeves, the long-nosed Defender. I'm a retired US Navy CPO that was stationed in the UK in 1999. In 2014 I retired and moved back to Texas. By 2019 I missed the UK and my gal so much I married her and moved back to stay. So, yeah, I'm the 'overpaid...

    Has overlanding become elitist ?

Well said, Mike. In fact, I think John (the O.P.) may have missed a critical point; getting more people into it made it cheaper, not more expensive. For those of us who started out poor as a church mouse, that avenue is still there. You can still use a jigsaw to open up the fenders. You can gas...

    Texas, Houston meet up

Speaking of growing... I'm moving back to Houston on or about 1FEB20. I hope to meet up with other overlanders when I get back. My passion is overland travel in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Lots to share! Here is a link to a YouTube video I did for a trip to Big Bear...

US West Grapevine Canyon Trail Cleanup

I'll be joining you. I'll probably meet up with you on Friday evening at Horse Springs. I'll be in Black Betty. You won't be able to miss her; Ford 4x4 F350 ex-USAF ambulance conversion. See you there!

Hi Kent, and thanks for the welcome! I appreciate the link to the UK Regional Director and will certainly contact him when I return in November. However, though I spend a lot of time in both places, I am mostly in San Pedro, CA. I would very much like a link to whoever would be the regional...

    Has overlanding become elitist ?

I'm currently building up an old Land Rover 110 for a year long expedetion in Africa. Guess what is NOT going on the front bumper?? That's right, no winch. They are not really common there in the overland crowd. Why, you ask? When you are driving your home, you don't put it in situations where...

Hujambo! I'm Henry Cole Stage, my friends and family call me "Cole". I have a few miles of overland expeditions under my belt and am currently planning more. A LOT more! I'm retired US Navy intel CPO and lived in the UK for 15 years. I retired out and stayed on there as a contractor on my base...
