I live in Decatur, IL. and would like to team up with someone or a group. Maybe Shawnee or Land Between the Lakes. There is some good wheeling at LBL. Some good dispersed camping too. I run a Silverado and sleep in the back. Comms are ham, gmrs ,
frs,and cb.
The ease of led is great. No mess and little maintnence. Carry good led flashlight and headlamp. Also can use a couple led lantern. Less work, more fun.
I thought I had read the exemption in the past. I will look for the document to carry with me. Years ago a state trooper in Kentucky got in trouble. He was ripping ham radios out of vehicles since the can receive police freqs. I know in the states that DC powered scanners outside of home or...
The lack of constant connectivity is what I am hearing. For now, I may upgrade, but will have to think putting a radio in the vehicle. On top of it all, as of July 1st I am not sure if you can hand hold a mic in Illinois while driving. It will be illegal to even have a cell phone in your hand...
I am not sure how much I would use the HF either. I just know that vhf and uhf do not have much traffic anymore. Not sure if traveling with hf on the road would be easy and be able to ragchew while on the road.
With that, do you miss getting on 160 meters? My understanding that antenna will only go to 80 meters if that is the Yaesu 120 antenna. You do you like the Hf radio. I have the same 2m/70cm radio. Works great.
I have a Tech license right now. I am looking to upgrade to a General. How many people run HF in their vehicle? What kind of rigs and antennas do you use? I have a Silverado with a topper on it. Looking to see best way to set it up. Looking at Yaesu ft-891 or Icom IC-7100. Looking at...
I saw the 24ms-1000 but not the 24ms2-1000. It is showing 135 reserve minutes. It looks like it is about 56 amp hours. I am looking for something larger than mine. Mine is 75 amp hrs.
I spent several days on the trails around Silverton and Ouray last fall. I was not in need of any recovery, but you never know if you will. I took running boards off my truck just to give a little more clearance. I have a long wheelbase. Makes a little more work getting in and out of it. I...
I am fairly new to overlanding. I intend to do a lot more. I have traveled a lot, but not much camping. Hope to learn and share here. Hope to meet a few people along the way. I use to SCUBA dive which got me into my current hobby of photography. Thanks for the add to the group.
