Based on my experience, the basic designs seem to be pretty sound, likely designed by people who actually use them, IE the Aussie’s. The exectution on the other hand leaves a little to be desired.
I would consider them “kit’s” basically complete, but the “fit & finish, and QC” will be up to...
If you can cover the nut, get the Turtleback, no question. The design of the TS/Crux is cool and the price point (was) nice, but the build quality sucks on mine and I'm by no means alone. If you go for the cheaper option, think of it as an overlanding trailer kit, you will have some work ahead...
You can get them filled plenty of places. Any welding gas location can do it, home brew shops or fire suppression Specality places can do it. A15# bottle costs about $20 to fill locally here in Charlotte.
I’ve settled on a 15# Powertank for primary duties due to the speed of inflation and heat/noise generated by the compressor. The ARB twin air is still under the passenger seat for occasional light use/backup.
Bought a Crux earlier, basically the same trailer. I'm pretty sure the 1600 is identical to the Tuff Stuff, my 1610 is a little different, shorter and wider I think, with less features on the interior.
You might want to check the other Expedition forum. There's a pretty detailed rant about the Max. Might just be typical internet bitching but might be something to it.
Disgruntled party seemed pretty reasonable & legit.
I pulled the trigger on this: Cruisemaster DO35 and couldn't be happier. It's a little pricier than the 2 mentioned above, but if you see one, you'll know why. Ordered it on a Friday, and it was on my front porch the next Wednesday. As a bonus, the odds of someone hooking up to your rig and...
My comment was not a shot at Smittybilt, simply trying to offer another option at that price point since SB seems to have production issues and people are waiting. I looked at the Scout and for several reasons I decided to go another route. As a 53 yo who clearly remembers SB's bumpers and "roll...
Anybody still waiting on the Scout should take a serious look at the Black Series Sergeant. I wish I had seen it before buying my Crux, might have made a different choice. Advertised price is $9K with a tent, annex, electrical system. Haven't seen one in person, but if the quality is there...
The few times I went with the now ex-wife and young kids it was hell on earth. But then again, I don't think it would have been much better in a diesel pusher.
Being a parent of 2 (18 & 14) the thought of being in either with 2 little ones makes me cringe so it's a toss up. I would end up with a hard side with a RTT. Wife and kiddos inside me on the roof! :grinning:
I can have the tent up in about 5-10min. The full annex will take about 45min solo, you might be able to shave that some with a helper. Search YouTube there are a few videos on the setup. I don't see me putting the full annex up for a weekend trip, I would have to be stationary longer than that...
Asking price was $15K, I got it for $13k. That included the RTT, annex, Electrical system including solar, and a Dometic CF50 tossed in on top of the deal.
Here are a few with it open the other weekend.
Here's another option: https://www.cruxexpeditiontrailers.com/ I just bought a 1610, It's by no means perfect but it was a good value. Haven't seen the 2700 or 3100, but they seem comparable to the Alpha.
There's a pretty heated thread going on another overland board about the Black Series. General consensus seems to be that the basic trailer design and build quality is OK, but the fit & finish seems to be US RV standard, (read shitty at best) and the customer service is a bit lacking. No...
New in box. This was included with an Air Locker I just purchased but I already have a Twin Air installed in the Jeep so this is redundant. Only un-boxed for the photos.
Street price on these is $170.00 asking $135.00. Willing to ship on your dime.
Thanks
