Death Valley before it gets too hot

There is fuel available at Stovepipe Wells and Furnace Creek. Mind you it is in the park and costs more. Getting gas in Trona helps the local economy which has been on the downturn for years and the earthquakes last year didn't help them either. Gas is also available at Panamint Springs Resort...

Death Valley before it gets too hot

The tow fee for services that far out begin at $1000. Poor advice to suggest it should be done just because a lesser type vehicle was spotted in another area it should not have been either. Bad advice to suggest Lippincott. Take the CRV places that are paved or well graded. Not the backcountry...

Death Valley before it gets too hot

I would be wary of taking a stock CRV on most back country routes in DVNP. That's just me though. I'd rather err on the side of safety. All entry points are free. The place to pay your entry fees are either at the Eastern Sierra Interagency Center or ranger stations located at Stovepipe Wells...

Death Valley alternative to high water Mojave Trail

Looks like a good plan. As you leave the Saline Valley warm springs you could encounter a lot of inbound traffic for the new years weekend. I doubt most will be using Lippincott on your way to The Racetrack. There is a no-fee campground near The Racetrack called Homestake. Be prepared for very...

Death Valley on thanksgiving || Tips and Group

Definitely great sights to see. Good thing you're not trying to get out of Saline via South Pass as there is an RV stuck blocking the road.

Death Valley on thanksgiving || Tips and Group

I don't agree entirely. Flash floods are a great way to die in the southwest deserts. If someone isn't prepared the cold is brutal. There are storms forecast for this coming week bringing snow and rain to the region. Before leaving a look at current and updated forecasts is imperative.

Death Valley on thanksgiving || Tips and Group

To clarify this would be SVR to Hunter Mountain to Hidden Valley to Teakettle. From Teakettle a right turn (Northeast) will take you to Ubehebe Crater and pavement. A left turn (Southwest) will take you to The Racetrack. The road from Teakettle to Ubehebe is usually the worst washboard in the...

Death Valley, Ca trip in October. Any ideas or recommendations?

Do your research and please abide by the rules of the NPS. A stop at the Furnace Creek Park Office for a lot of information. Stopping at the Eastern Sierra Interagency Center in Lone Pine is also very informative. DVNP is the largest National Park outside of AK. Tread lightly as not all members...

Sounds like the MO of the litterbug. No actual interest in doing what's right. Are the other pieces of his rig still out in Dedeckera Canyon? Please don't come back to Death Valley NP if you cannot respect it. Wonder if the NPS has gotten involved yet.

You failed to answer my other questions. You seem bent on detracting from the facts I've presented. I give a damn about access and our parks. We all have responsibilities and if I was able to go get them I would. If I was responsible for them being left there it wouldn't be a question and they...

GB you are a quick emotional one aren't you? Do you always expect others to be responsible for your errors? Neither do I. I waited for the responsible party to do what is expected of those who venture off road. I have picked up a lot of trash in the wilds and at home. I was raised to do so. I...

    Is this one of us?

I sat on my hands for quite a while during this whole evolution. I knew quite soon after the incident that the axle and fenders were in Dedeckera Canyon. I know if I had been in a similar occurrence I would have done what is necessary to retrive anything left behind. I was patient and waited for...

Amusing. So as an "overlander" you are ok with poor planning and putting oneself and family in jeopardy? I've been enjoying the outdoors all my life and have seen the closures of areas due to asinine behavior. No captain planet here but you are free to assume. If following rules/regs, practicing...

Just as I thought. Lots of excuses and internet bloviating about how great an "overlander" and steward of the outdoors one is with zero follow through. A-Aron please don't come back to DVNP unless it is to retrieve the trash you left behind.

It also shows poor planning and lack of due diligence to take responsibility for ones own actions. Yes saving the family is priority but not putting them at risk would come even before that. One comment about a lack of information about Death Valley is mind boggling. There are tons of websites...
