My taco was actually a 2wd and it was a lease. I had gone to my dealership to buy it out but they wanted 3k more than what I had originally got it for which made no sense so I went to Jeep and was able to get a much better deal. There's definitely pros and cons to each but so far I like the Jeep...
I actually had LED headlights straight from the factory but just really wanted the halo DRL. Halogens are terrible, headlights are always one of the first things that get replaced on my cars.
Barricade has some sliders that work with the factory rubi rails, that'll probably be my next mod. I could really use a hardtop too so I'll check out rubitrux and see if get lucky. Thanks for that suggestion.
I wish I could've afforded the hard rock or Recon as it's called now. The steel bumpers are exclusive to the hard rock version of the Rubicon. I still get the rubi rails but I need something that sticks out a little more for added protection.
Awesome man, these Jeeps can really do some work off road. I've actually decided on the Gobi I'm just waiting for Black Friday to get a good deal. What bumpers are you planning on going with? Send me a link to your build page so I can follow along and congrats on your new Jeep.
Ohh man got too many plans not enough money. Next thing will be a set of sliders(the rubicon model comes with sliders but they only provide protection from underneath). Suspension, 35" tires, rear bumper, roof rack for my tent, lights, onboard air, a whole bunch of cosmetic stuff, the list never...
I've been a member on this forum for a little while but I've just recently traded in my 2016 Tacoma for a 2017 Jeep Rubicon seeing as this will be my overland rig and daily driver for the next 10+ years I decided to start my first build thread.
Armor:
-Factory rubi rails
-Barricade Adventure HD...
Not really a new member but I just upgraded my rig from a 2016 Tacoma 2wd to a 2017 Jeep Rubicon. The new ride has been a blast so far, much more fun to drive and I finally have that 4x4. Oh and I'm from Southern California.
I did take her out for a little off road adventure and was definitely surprised by how well she did. My friend has a 4wd taco and his actually got stuck in a sand pit I was able to push through with my lockers so I don't feel as bad now having a 2wd. I already got some traction mats, Maxsa $140...
Nice truck and love what you did with the bed. I just bought mine last week, I'm just starting out so no mods yet. I'm going to look into that cooler, I was looking at the yeti too but as you mentioned way too expensive.

Just checked it out, definitely some good info. I just bought some traction mats, a front bumper with a winch and some under body armor are next on the list. I'm not planning on doing any crazy rock crawling or anything like that but I'm a big backcountry camper so just need something that'll...
Thanks for the help Shawn. I definitely want to upgrade the tires to the BF Goodrich at ko2 but seeing as it's a brand new truck I'll wait till I wear these ones out a bit.

Great information, thanks a lot. I will start looking into the stuff you mention and work my way through the stuff I can afford now. I'm not a huge off-road guy but I do love camping n backpacking so I just want to be able to get to most places without the constant fear of getting my truck stuck...
Hey guys so I'm new to overlanding and I just bought a 2016 Tacoma it's got the off-road package but only 2wd. I'm looking for any ideas/suggestions of gear or equipment I can add to it to make it as off-road capable as possible. My biggest fear is getting the truck stuck out in the middle of...
Hey everyone my name is Nick I'm new to the overland community,
I'm from Anaheim, CA
I just bought a 2016 Tacoma TRD off road (sadly I couldn't afford the 4x4 so mine is only 2 wheel drive)
I am an overlanding newbie, but I've got trips to Yosemite and Zion planned in the next few months...
